Katherine Leal Unmuth is an experienced writer. She specializes in education and Latino issues. She currently blogs on the Latino Ed Beat, a joint project focused on Hispanic education issues sponsored by the Education Writers Association and the Latino Policy Forum. She also has written web content for the McKinney Independent School District in Texas. She has contributed to national publications including Education Week.

In 2012, she was an invited speaker at the College Board’s “Prepárate: Educating Latinos for the Future of America” conference in Miami, the Education Writers Association National Seminar in Philadelphia and the Latino Legacy Weekend at The University of Texas at Austin.

She worked as an education reporter at The Dallas Morning News for more than six years. During that time, she won second place for beat reporting in the large media category from the national Education Writers Association. Prior to that, she wrote about higher education for The Wichita Eagle and also contributed to the newspaper’s coverage of the BTK killer.
